Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of the THE TEA Content API at api.thetea.app, the documentation and developer tools at tea.support, and any related bots, MCP servers, or SDKs (together, the “Service”). By calling the API or creating an API key you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

The Service is a read-only REST API serving an encyclopedia of Chinese tea — 450 teas and 32 type overviews, decomposed into queryable fields across up to 72 languages. The Service is provided as a community preview and may change, gain, or lose features over time.

2. Plans & access

A free tier returns English data subject to a rate limit. Paid subscriptions (Pro, Expert, Guru) unlock additional languages, field depth, bulk export, and commercial-use rights, as described on the pricing page. Access is authenticated with an API key issued to you; you are responsible for keeping it secret and for all activity under it.

3. Acceptable use

• Do not attempt to disrupt, overload, or circumvent rate limits or access controls.
• Do not resell raw API access or redistribute the dataset in bulk except under a plan that explicitly permits it.
• Do not present the data as your own original work; attribution is required (see the License).
• Do not use the Service for unlawful purposes.

4. Billing

Paid plans are billed monthly through Stripe by Teamotea USA LLC. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time; access continues until the end of the paid period. Prices may change with notice; changes do not affect the current billing cycle.

5. Content license

The tea content is licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0; commercial use requires a paid plan that grants commercial rights. Full terms are on the License page.

6. No warranty

The Service and data are provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind. While the dataset was validated for high cross-language faithfulness, we do not guarantee accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any purpose. Tea information is provided for reference and is not health, dietary, or medical advice.

7. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Teamotea USA LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from use of, or inability to use, the Service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the preceding three months.

8. Changes & termination

We may update these Terms; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date. We may suspend or terminate access that violates these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time.
